Whether you were a fan of this show or not, there is no disputing how huge it was.
This past weekend, in 1999 (26 years ago) – THE SOPRANOS premiered on HBO. 86 episodes over 6 seasons! The show’s been credited as kickstarting the “second golden age of television”. The series won a bunch of awards – 21 PrimeTime Emmys; 5 Golden Globes.
The series explored the life of Italian-American mob boss Tony Soprano as he attempts to balance family and “the business”. A lot of the storytelling revolves around conversations with Tony’s therapist. It turned actor James Gandolfini into a household name; alongside his tv wife, Edie Falco – who played Carmela Soprano; his therapist was played by Oscar winning actress Lorraine Bracco.
The Sopranos is widely regarded – to this day – as one of the greatest and most influential tv series of all time!
