Porter Airlines has launched its new route between Thunder Bay Airport and Pearson Airport.
The route will operate with three roundtrips per week, increasing Porter’s passenger capacity by more than 10 per cent.
The new flights will operate on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, with departures from Toronto at 7:20 a.m. and Thunder Bay at 10:10 a.m.
“I think it’s just a natural evolution, to be honest with you,” said Thunder Bay Airport President and CEO, Graham Ingham. “This is all about giving people more options and the more options that people have to move around the country, you know, I think the better off we all are. It’s an exciting day for us and we’re very fortunate to have such a strong presence with Porter here in Thunder Bay.”
Before the expansion, Porter was providing up to five daily roundtrip flights between Thunder Bay and Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport.
“To be able to connect Thunder Bay via a brand new jet to Pearson and onward to a whole bunch of destinations that we now serve from Pearson across Canada and into the United States, I think that’s significant,” said Porter Airlines, Executive Chairman, Robert Deluce. “This is a first flight today, but we know that we’ll add to the frequency and we’ll add to the connections that are available to those who are travelling to and from Thunder Bay.”
“Thunder Bay is one of our more significant destinations and we don’t mind saying that it’s an important destination for us, so to have seven flights in and out of here a day between Ottawa and Billy Bishop City Airport and now to be adding Pearson the third airport with a direct connection from Thunder Bay, that means that we’re really providing probably more flights than any other airline out of here on a daily basis.”
The plane servicing the route is Porter’s new 132-seat Embraer E195-E2.
It offers an all-economy cabin with no middle seats.
