The proposed indoor tennis centre in Thunder Bay is officially underway.
City council approved a lease agreement at Chapples Park and also agreed to designate it as a municipal capital facility.
Being a municipal capital facility means the tennis courts will be exempt from city taxes.
The decision was made in court at Monday night’s council meeting.
Director of tennis at the Thunder Bay Tennis Centre, Jamie Grieve, said that they plan to start building in the fall.
“We have already spent $800,000.00 on preparation, engineering, project management, downpayments and other areas,” said Grieve.
Steps to get the centre started are already one-fifth of the way completed.
