Some extra relief at the pumps.
The Ford government will be extending gas and fuel tax cuts until June 30th of next year, as part of proposed legislation in the upcoming Fall Economic Statement, which is set to be released on Thursday.
Since July of 2022 those fueling up have seen a 5.7 cent per litre reduction on the gas tax and a 5.3 cent per litre reduction on the fuel sales tax.
Those cuts were set to expire at the end of 2023.
Speaking to media Tuesday morning Premier Doug Ford also took aim at the federal government echoing calls by other provincial leaders.
“I’m calling on the federal government to eliminate the carbon tax. Folks I just talked about the ten cents at the gas pumps. If the federal government eliminated the carbon tax off the pumps alone, that’s another fourteen cents.”
Additionally the legislation includes a nine cent per litre rate cut on diesel fuel.
