One person is dead and a second is charged with 2nd degree murder following an incident Thursday morning in Dryden.
Police were called to an apartment on King Street where officers located an individual, identified as 20 year old Cypress Lawson of Dryden, suffering from life threatening injuries.
Paramedics transported the victim to hospital where they were later pronounced deceased.
Officers later arrested the man at a business on Government Street.
He’s been identified as 23 year old Samuel Shmanka also of Dryden, who remains in custody while he awaits appearing in court in Kenora on June 8th.
Provincial Constable Brittany Bembeneck says the investigation remains on going and a large police presence will be noticed due to the magnitude of the investigation.
“We have our criminal investigations branch in Dryden assisting with this investigation, and there’s also members of our Emergency Response Team along with our Forensic Identification Services, so they’re all on scene assisting us.”
However Bembeneck is reassuring the public that there is no ongoing threat to safety and this is an isolated incident.
As police continue to investigate they are also seeking information from the public to assist them in the investigation.
