The system worked, that is the easiest explanation Detective Inspector Jeremy Pearson could provide to media Wednesday following the successful location of an 8 year old boy, the subject of yesterday’s Amber Alert.
“The sheer number of resources that were allocated towards this search and the sheer amount of humanity that is working on this and are deeply investing in this. I believe that you don’t truly realize what a relief it will be to resolve this safely, until it occurs.”
Many elements of the Thunder Bay Police service were mobilized as part of the alert and assistance from the OPP, which included a Canine Unit and air assets, was called in.
Pearson notes while there was some criticism about the timing of when the investigation began to when the Amber Alert was issued, if the process was not followed exactly as it is supposed to have been followed, the system would lose its credibility and ability to respond.
Speaking to media Wednesday Pearson laid out the final pieces of the investigation, including assistance from the public which he is both thankful for and notes helped to bring the ordeal to a close.
“There was an investigative process and interviews follow up, that led us to establish the command post, establish the search parameters and area. From there it was additional information received from a member of the community that led us, within minutes, to a location that resulted in one male being taken into custody and the child being safely located.”
The man, identified as the child’s father faces several charges, including abduction, failure to provide the necessities of life and breach of a release order.
