In a little over 72 hours Acting Chief of Police Dan Taddeo will be retiring from a role he was thrust into unexpectedly in 2022 after the suspensions of both the Deputy Chief and Chief of Police.
Speaking with Acadia News Taddeo says while the Thunder Bay Police Service may be a medium sized service it is a mighty one, and emphasizes that it has to be.
“Brings my saying to mind, that I tell many of our officers. ‘We’re the jack of all trades,’ and I kind do a pause because the saying goes ‘master of none’ incorrect, ‘we’re the master of all’, because we have to be. We have to be major crime investigators, we have to be homicide investigators.”
Reflecting on his career, which has spanned three decades, he says a lot has changed over the years but one thing that has remained strong is the comradery and support within the ranks of the service.
“We don’t want to let anyone fall. We want to make sure we’re supported there. I’ve see many units that if they’re short and they’re trying to find other people, its not so much a question ‘Do you want overtime?’ its a question of ‘I have to go in to help my unit so they’re not short staffed.”
A change of command ceremony is set to take place Monday afternoon with Chief Designate Darcy Fleury taking on the mantle of leadership of the Thunder Bay Police Service.
