Cell phones, television and radio broadcasts will be interrupted across the country Wednesday for a test of Canada’s Alert Ready System.
A sharp alarm tone will sound for 8 seconds followed up by an automated voice indicating the alert is just a test, which will take place at various times across the country.
Residents in New Brunswick will hear the test at 10:55 a.m. ADT.
Listeners in PEI will get the alert at 12:55 p.m. ADT.
Nova Scotia’s test will take place 1:55 p.m. ADT.
Meanwhile Ontario residents will get the test at 12:55 p.m. EDT.
Two provinces, Quebec and Alberta are not taking part in the test.
The system is used to help warn residents of natural disasters, Amber Alerts, and other emergencies.
Hey Canada, mark your calendars for May 10th🗓️! @AlertReady will be conducting tests across most provinces & territories to ensure our system’s readiness in the case of an actual emergency. 🚨
