The next Chief of Police for the Thunder Bay Police Service, Darcy Fleury, has arrived and is getting ready to take on the role.
Speaking to media Monday he says despite retiring from the RCMP he immediately went into preparing for his new position.
“I was aware of some of the reports that were coming out and of course some of the reports that I had read before that was about what is going on in the community. Just kind of reading up on those and preparing myself, so that we have these meetings coming up this week so I could be ready to go and have some knowledge of what was going on.”
One of those meetings includes the first Thunder Bay Police Services Board meeting since the release of the final report from the Expert Panel.
Fleury spent much of Monday touring the Balmoral Street Headquarters and meeting with officers and staff he will soon be leading.
While he may have 36 years of experience in law enforcement under his belt, Fleury notes there is still a bit of an adjustment.
“Kind of understand some of the language that they use in the department here, of course its quite different from what I’m used to. So it was nice to get that kind of first feel and get an understanding of how things operate.”
A change of command ceremony where Acting Chief Dan Taddeo will officially pass command of the Thunder Bay Police Service to Fleury is set to take place on May 15th.
