A few items on the agenda for Committee of the Whole at Thunder Bay City Council tonight, including funding contributions for community based strategies.
There Community Strategies Manager Cynthia Olsen is providing a recommendation to see $50,000 be provided for two projects each being undertaken by the Lakehead Social Planning Council and another $50,000 for Roots to Harvest.
Additionally $15,000 is going for incident reporting for the LSPC.
There is also a recommendation from the Heritage Advisory Committee for the demolition of the St. John’s Church Manse, located on Pearl Street, as it has low to moderate contextual, design or historical value in comparison to the church its associated with next door.
Meanwhile Councillor Kasey Etreni is seeking support for a motion to have city staff look into potential surplus property the City of Thunder Bay has.
A memo dated March 6th states the city owns a large amount of land and some could be in the city’s best interest to be labeled as surplus and sold for development.
The motion is requesting staff provide a report back to council by September 18th.
Another memorandum from Engineering and Operations Director Kayla Dixon will touch on an update to the Pool 6 Lands Waterfront Master Plan, seeking input from the public on possible land uses, a survey of which is set to be made public next month.
Tonight’s meeting gets underway at 6:30 p.m.
