It’s March Break, unfortunately many of the outdoor rinks across the city are officially closed for the season.
Officials with the City of Thunder Bay say recent Spring weather has deteriorated ice conditions closing several and making others “boot-only”.
“As we get closer to summer, the ice at some of the rinks is softening and melting,” said Guy Walter, Acting Manager, Parks & Open Spaces. “Currently, many rinks remain open for those who want to get out and skate before the season is over.”
Rinks that have been closed include:
- Wilson Park rink
- Third & High Park rink
- Woodside Parkette pond
- Anten Parkette pond
- Picton Parkette pond
- Waddington Park loop
- Brent Park loop
The rinks at James Street south and Minnesota Park are now considered boot only.
Other rinks including the Prince Arthur’s Landing rink remain open, but the staff will continue to assess ice conditions daily.
