A funding proposal of $10,000 has been approved by the Thunder Bay Police Services Board.
The money will fully fund the cost of telecommunications for the Thunder Bay and Area Victim Services crisis line for 2023.
“This is a significant funding announcement, and one that cements our commitment to the safety and wellbeing of members of the force and beyond. said Acting Administrator Malcolm Mercer in a release. “Thunder Bay and Area Victim Services are a key partner in serving victims of crime in our community and we are proud to be able to support them in their work.”
Thunder Bay and Area Victim Services offers emotional support, and referral services, while providing advocacy and practical assistance to victims of crime and tragic circumstances.
Executive Director Penny Radford says her organization has a close relationship with the front line officers and detectives of the Thunder Bay Police Service.
She notes the money will go a long way for those who need assistance through the organization.
“In providing this funding, Thunder Bay and Area Victim Services are receiving much needed support to enhance the well-being of our community and provide practical support to assist officers and detectives in their journey to keep our community safe.”
The funding also represents the largest funding commitment the Board has ever undertaken.
