Thunder Bay Police say a second suspect has been arrested in connection to the city’s latest homicide.
Detective Inspector Jeremy Pearson says a 16-year-old from Blind River was arrested by OPP in the town east of Sault Ste. Marie on Tuesday and faces a charge of first degree murder. The youth cannot be identified as a result of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, but has been remanded into custody.
Pearson also indicated that other suspects are being sought, but wouldn’t elaborate as it is an on-going investigation.
Few other details on the incident, which claimed the life of a 24 year old Toronto man and saw a large section of the South Core locked down, are being released. When pressed Pearson did say several items were collected and processed by the forensic team but did not indicate if drugs, weapons or cash were among them. However a release from Thunder Bay Police states investigators believe the homicide is related to drug trafficking within the city.
Police had previously arrested and charged a 40-year-old city man, Greg Meshake, with first degree murder on Sunday.
He remains in custody.
The police are continuing to ask for assistance for the public for any dash cam or security footage from Oct. 7 between 3:15pm and 4:15pm.
Pearson was also asked about the public attempting to access and watch the area that was locked down as it played out on Friday, he says police actively discourage that behavior as it puts additional people at risk in an unpredictable scenario.
