It was a successful first year for cruise ships coming and visiting Thunder Bay, according to Tourism Thunder Bay Manger Paul Pepe, with the final ship of the season setting sail this past weekend.
A total of nine ships moored at the Pool Six Docks, bringing with it almost than 5700 visitors to the city, and while the numbers are still being tallied, an economic impact of more than four million dollars. Pepe says while that number is not as high as visitors to the city from other travel methods, it still helps raise the city’s tourism profile through word of mouth.
He notes there are many potential opportunities for the Pool Six Dock area for the future now that cruise ship arrivals and departures are a part of the waterfront, including the addition of a walking trail that will connect the area to Prince Arthur’s Landing.
