A new phone number is available to emergency mental health texting and chatting.
CMHA Thunder Bay Crisis Response is a 24/7 phone line that has a new text and chat option to have easy access to mental health and addictions resources, support, and referrals.
By texting 807-346-8282 from anywhere, the 24/7 line is immediately available for calls, texts, and/or a chat box at (https://thunderbay.cmha.ca/) for those facing a mental health and addictions crisis and their families or loved ones, and it’s free and confidential.
“CMHA crisis phone line breaks down one more barrier for those seeking mental health, addictions or have experienced/been exposed to violence, opening the door for healthier lives for all in Thunder Bay,” said Jennifer Hyslop, CEO, CMHA Thunder Bay. “This is another important step in our efforts to create a mental health crisis system that better responds to the needs of our community by providing mental health to all.”
There are three options to connect to the help line:
1.) to connect via phone by calling 807-346-8282 or 1-866-888-8988,
2.) to connect via text message at 807-346-8282,
3.) Chat is also available through CMHA Thunder Bay website: https://thunderbay.cmha.ca
An automated response will come first and the user would then be able to put in their name, info, or they could stay anonymous. They would then be in direct contact with a trained crisis response worker.
The 24/7 Crisis Response phone line continues to be available for the entire Northwestern Ontario region, and you can call it any time if you need help. That number is 1-866-888-8988
The crisis phone line expansion is to support people in Thunder Bay via text or chat beginning August 30th. For more information about the text/chat options and 24/7 phone line, please visit https://thunderbay.cmha.ca
