The Thunder Bay Police Services Board (TBPSB) levies a suspension against Chief Sylvie Hauth.
Multiple reports Tuesday indicated that Hauth had taken a leave from her role, but the board put out a statement that she has been removed from her role citing the serious allegations brought forward by the Ontario Civilian Police Commission (OCPC), pending the outcome of that process.
Acting Deputy Chief Dan Taddeo will lead the force going forward and the board is not offering up further comment as the matter is now before the OCPC.
Hauth announced her retirement from Thunder Bay Police on Friday, but hours later Ontario Civilian Police Commission (OCPC) determined a hearing was warranted based on findings in an investigation that launched in February.
Hauth was served with a Notice of Hearing on three counts of alleged misconduct under the Police Services Act, (PSA) all relating to the investigation launched against board member Georjann Morriseau.
The OCPC expressed concerns about management of discipline in the police service, the conduct of criminal investigations by its officers, and the ability of senior leadership to administer day-to-day operations in good faith and in compliance with the PSA.
Concerns emerged from a preliminary review requested by Solicitor General Sylvia Jones, with the support of the Thunder Bay Police Services Board (TBPSB).
The OCPC continues it’s investigation into the actions of not only Chief Hauth, but Deputy Chief Ryan Hughes and police lawyer Holly Walbourne.
