The Thunder Bay Police Services Board met for the first time since having a provincially appointed administrator.
There are currently two local members on the board after all others resigned earlier this year; Mayor of Thunder Bay and Georjann Morriseau are remaining.
Morriseau has lodged complaints with the Ontario Human Rights Tribunal against the board that she sits on for allegations of discrimination and harassment based on race.
With the lack of members on the board, the province will be appointing the replacements. However, it’s likely that an appointment won’t be completed until after the provincial election on June 2nd. The latest appointee, Shelby Ch’ng, won’t be taking her seat pending the outcome of her run as a provincial candidate.
At the police station, the human resources manager has recently completed Workplace Investigation Training as they are the one that conducts most of the internal complaints and allegations of harassment.
Along with afore mentioned training, the an outside HR consultant reviewed and made recommendations to the Service’s Harassment Policy. Those changes are currently being put into effect.
More training will be completed in the fall for supervisors on the subject of harassment as well as training to “withstand, recover and grow in the face of stressors they have on the job” according to a statement released from the TBPSB.
