Students enrolled with the public school board will have an opportunity to complete a census survey.
The survey will be available on Feb. 14 -18 and is completely voluntary, and it is not mandatory that all students complete the questionnaire.
All data will be kept confidential and only allow access by authorized personnel.
The more data that is provided will better aide in educational and research purposes to further equity of access and outcomes, according to the FAQ section on the census webpage.
Other school boards outside of northwestern Ontario participate in student census surveys.
Various questions will be asked on the survey include; questions about student identities such as racial/ethnic background, religious belief, disability, etc.
The data collected can then be used to diminish gaps regarding access, achievement and well-being for the student population.
This data is particularly useful to identify systemic barriers that impede students from achieving their individual potential. These types of barriers can exist in policies, procedures and practices and have an adverse effect on students or cause inequity.
