Millions of dollars is being invested into gender equality in Indigenous communities.
The federal government is putting more than $14 million into communities across Canada to support Indigenous women, girls, Two-Spirit and all LBGTQQIA+ Indigenous people.
The projects will support economic participation, increasing leadership skills, as well as preventing and eliminating gender-based violence. The money will also help to enhance projects that focus on reconciliation and more.
Of the 34 projects that are getting funding, the Elizabeth Fry Society of Northwestern Ontario is getting upwards of $396,114 for their project “Stronger, together: Aligning feminist efforts in Northern Ontario to impact systemic change for criminalized women / Plus fort, ensemble : Aligner les efforts féministes dans le Nord de l’Ontario pour impacter le changement systémique pour les femmes criminalisées”
