There is some frustration among Thunder Bay city officials over the current high rate of COVID-19.
Medical Officer of Health Dr. Janet DeMille acknowledges not everyone is doing what they should be such as wearing masks, staying home and maintaining distance from others.
“We know that there are gatherings happening, social gatherings, and we find out after the fact. As a result COVID has spread and that impacts other people,” says DeMille.
The medical officer says it is a challenge as it spreads the virus easier, including among children.
“I wrote a letter to parents and care givers of school children and students, that this is not the time to be interacting with others outside of the school setting,” points out DeMille.
The medical officer acknowledged the situation when asked why the case count keeps rising in Thunder Bay, and provincially the average is about 1,000 cases, if it appears the vast majority of people are following health guidelines.
The total number of active cases on Thursday is 315, along with 29 deaths.
