A $2,000 Tbaytel For Good Community grant is letting Pope John Paul II students help out new mothers at Faye Peterson House and their babies.
Grade 7 Anishinaabemowin student Grace Stasiuk says the money will buy them sewing machines, materials and patterns for baby clothes.
“I’m looking forward to giving the Faye Peterson House new baby mittens and hats and everything that we’re going to be sewing,” Stasiuk says.
“We want them to know that we care about them and they’re loved and they matter, and that they’re not alone,” she says.
Bridney Hergert teaches the Grade 7/8 Anishinaabemowin class, and explains they’re looking forward to helping the community.
She adds it’s also a chance for the students to learn a skill that isn’t commonly taught in schools anymore.
