A window space at the Royal Edward Arms has been transformed into a public art installation inspired by COVID-19.
Thunder Bay artist Michel Dumont tells us he started the project at the beginning of the pandemic as a way of keeping his hands busy.
“I was afraid like everyone else, but as a gay man, I also had lived through HIV/AIDS and the fear of that virus. So I knew how to keep myself busy and preoccupied and I kept trudging along,” Dumont said.
The art installation is like something you would see in Toronto, and Dumont says it was his dream to be able to showcase an infinity room for all of Thunder Bay to see.
The local artist describes the piece as having two sides, with one aspect being the nightmare of the virus, and the other being a deconstructed dream-catcher symbolizing love, light, and hope.
The project was made possible due to funding from Toronto’s Insiders Project.
