If the strike by more than 3,000 CN Rail workers goes on for too long the Port of Thunder Bay might see some effects.
The strike began yesterday and port CEO Tim Heney indicates it is all a matter of waiting to see what develops in Ottawa. He indicates in the past the federal government has legislated striking rail workers back to the job to prevent a hit to the economy.
The Port CEO tells us CN carries about 20 per cent of the grain into Thunder Bay, and this is the busy time of year because of the grain harvest from the prairies which is now coming in, so it is “not a good time for a strike” by the rail workers.
