A suspicious package that led to an evacuation of the courthouse Saturday afternoon is now in the hands of police.
It took about three and a half hours before firefighters were able to get inside the building and recover the package. There’s no indication yet as to what it is or where it came from.
Fire Chief John Hay says they wanted to ensure there was no risk to the public. He notesĀ hazmatĀ entries are very technical and require a lot of preparation to keep firefighters safe, should the package have opened and there was something in there that was of harm to them.
Hay adds police will be determining what to with the package, but he thinks their decision has been to destroy it. (Photo: Caryn Ceolin)
