The Thunder Bay 50/50 reaches a significant milestone marking its 12th consecutive month with a Grand Prize exceeding $1 million, which helped Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre tremendously this year.
The August 50/50 jackpot achieved this amount in less than a week, with four weeks still remaining.
President and CEO of the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation, Glenn Craig, says the 50/50 brings their level of support to the next level.
“We are able to do more and do things faster than ever before,” says Craig. “Which could be anything from buying large equipment and funding renovations.”
Craigs adds that thanks to the 50/50 success, they are able to support three or four times more than previous years.
Some of these upgrades include new catheterization laboratories that cost around $2 million, a targeted $3 million for the emergency department, ventilators, and equipment for the NICU and Cancer Centre.
“It’s also helped with small changes, because the hospital is over 20 years old now and there’s a constant churn of equipment,” says Craig.
In total, the Thunder Bay 50/50 has awarded over $43 million in prizes to winners across Ontario. Within the last 12 months, nearly $18 million in total prizes have been awarded.
The next grand prize draw takes place on August 30.
