Council could approve the proposed indoor tennis centre to begin construction.
It will be decided on Monday night.
It will live on municipal lands within Chapples Park, which exempts the centre from municipal taxes and would lower operational costs.
Director of tennis with the Thunder Bay Tennis Centre, Jamie Grieve, said the approval has been a long time coming.
“I’m feeling really good about it,” said Grieve. “What administration has presented to us is more than fair.”
He adds that the centre is already one-fifth of the way completed.
“We have already spent $800,000.00 on preparation, engineering, project management, downpayments and other areas.”
They were trying to get the project started for last fall in attempts to be completed by this summer.
Grieve said that following Monday’s meeting, council will ratify again on June 24.
“They have a week to go over it,” said Grieve. “Then if it’s approved, our building permit has been submitted and paid, so Tom Jones and their subcontractors are ready to get this built.”
They hope to get things started officially in the fall.
