The Mountdale Boat Launch and park area is officially closed for improvements.
Improvements include paving the parking area with dedicated spots for vehicles with boat trailers and adding an accessible pedestrian trail leading to the viewing platform. The western portion of the park previously used as a parking lot is also being transformed into a green space.
On the infrastructure side, two low-impact developments are also being installed, using vegetation to catch and filter water before it enters the Kaministiquia River.
The upgrades are based on feedback from public consultation conducted by the city and Lakehead Region Conservation Area in 2021 and 2022.
Improvements to the dock, viewing platform, and boat launch were also identified in that process and will be addressed as funding becomes available.
During the closure, the Mission Island, Current River, and Marina Park boat launches are available.
Construction is expected to be complete by September 30.
