Members of several Unifor locals have returned to work on the St. Lawrence Seaway.
This comes following mediation talks between the union and the corporation yielded a tentative agreement.
St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation CEO Terence Bowles calls the agreement a fair one for workers, while securing a strong and stable future for the Seaway.
“We know that this strike has not been easy for anyone, and value the patience and cooperation of our marine industry bi-national partners; carriers, shippers, ports, local communities and all those who depend on this vital transportation corridor on both sides of the Canada-U.S. border.”
Job action began by more than 300 unionized members on October 22nd.
The agreement has yet to be ratified by employees, but that is expected to be done within the coming days.
In the meantime a recovery program is being implemented and ships will begin passing through following the return-to-work of employees as of 7:00 a.m. Monday.
