The fall session in the Ontario Legislature is looking to be a busy one according to Thunder Bay – Superior North MPP Lise Vaugeois.
The NDP critic says one focus for her will be addressing shortfalls municipalities will face to become compliant with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act following a $50 million cut from the Ministry of Seniors and Accessibility.
“How are things supposed to improve for people, seniors, and people with disabilities when the department has been cut. They weren’t able to do the work before, so how are they going to do it with even less money.”
Compliance for the AODA is expected to be in line for 2025.
Additionally, Vaugeois says she will be actively fighting to keep both healthcare and education public.
“There’s a lot of again misinformation about how much funding is going into healthcare and public education. The reality is there have been cuts over a very long period and people are feeling those cuts, so those fights continue.”
Another point of focus for Vaugeois will be addressing the flaws in the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board and how it is treating workers.
