A share of a $4 million Victim Support Grant program is coming to Thunder Bay.
A total of $72,300 is being provided to the Thunder Bay Police Service, who will work along side the Faye Peterson House, on one of 19 projects geared towards addressing intimate partner and domestic violence in Ontario.
The partnership will allow them to deliver a victim-centered with a trauma-informed approach to victims and survivors.
Thunder Bay – Atikokan MPP Kevin Holland believes the funding will have a positive impact on vulnerable residents.
“This investment will deeply impact our community, providing crucial support to victims of domestic violence and exploitation. The collaboration between the Thunder Bay Police service and Faye Peterson House will foster a safer and more supportive system for those affected in Thunder Bay.”
Police officers will be provided with training to improve their understanding of the trauma-informed practice.
As well a new victim specialist will be hired on a part time basis who will act as a liaison between the police and victims, advocating for their needs and interests through the investigative process.
The Victim Support Grants is part of Ontario’s Guns, Gangs and Violence Reduction Strategy.
