There is help for anyone one suffering from things like depression, insomnia, alcohol withdrawal or post-traumatic stress disorder.
Queen’s University in Kingston is offering online support.
Associate professor Nazanin Alavi is part of the project and says they’ve expanded their program into northern Ontario.
“We started this a couple of years ago and in the past four years we have offered the online psychotherapy to over two thousand people,” says Alavi.
“We’re doing this through a cloud-based platform that we have designed.”
Queen’s says it expanded the on-line service because in Northern Ontario, there are very limited accessible and affordable mental health services available to adults, such as correctional workers and oncology patients.
Alavi adds anyone who takes part in the free psychotherapy sessions will be part of studies Queen’s University is also conducting.
She adds their clients remain anonymous for their studies.
