A city man faces several charges in connection to a head-on collision on in the Oliver and Golf Links Road area Tuesday evening, resulting in two people being sent to hospital.
The incident occurred just before 9:30 p.m. when a red pickup truck and a grey SUV collided, which did considerable front end damage to both vehicles.
An investigation revealed the driver of the eastbound pickup truck was observed swerving on Oliver Road, almost striking the media while turning left onto Golf Links Road.
He continued north before swerving into oncoming traffic, colliding with the SUV.
Paramedics took the two occupants of the SUV to hospital for further evaluation and treatment, with the driver of the vehicle sustaining multiple broken bones.
Officers conducted a roadside screening and determined the driver of the pickup was possibly impaired by alcohol, further investigation revealed empty alcohol containers inside the cab of the truck.
He was taken into custody, with a breath sample confirming a blood alcohol concentration of 126 milligrams per 100 millilitres of blood.
The 21 year old has been charged with:
• Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
• Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs
• Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus)
He has since been released from custody on conditions and a future court date.
