After receiving feedback from residents and city employees, Mayor Ken Boshcoff is proposing a hiring freeze of sorts for vacancies of non mandatory staff.
While he has received some insight from council he wants to bring it before the body at its next meeting.
“I’m led to believe there is some kind of process involved now. I’d just like to see a strengthening of it to make sure that this is a much more human and considerate way of looking at positions, as opposed to automatically replacing them.”
Boshcoff wants positions when vacated, to be examined for their need.
He notes he is focusing on trying to save money for the city as it works its way through some intense cuts to keep tax rates low.
The hold on hiring would also include any new positions put forward in the city’s budget until 2024.
