It was a bit of a grilling, but Chief Designate Darcy Fleury knew that going into the McKellar Ward meeting at City Hall Wednesday evening.
“I thought that they were well engaged and definitely capable of presenting their concerns,” said Fleury speaking with media after the meeting. “I talked about having town hall meetings, which is, I would consider this kind of that same range and I want to see more of that.”
He notes what he heard will only help him understand what the community is experiencing as he takes over the mantle of leadership for Thunder Bay Police Service.
“The questions are exactly what we need to see, we want to know if we’re doing stuff good, what we can do better, and what things we’re doing really really well.”
When it came to specific locations and the issues associated with those locations, Fleury was able to reassure residents they are on his radar, and by extension the radar of the Thunder Bay Police.
“We’re already identified a lot of these situations and a lot of the problems we’re seeing out there. It’s just a matter of really, getting a feel for, like the one question about you know they have this huge problem in an area. Well maybe we need to, as Dan (Taddeo) mentioned in the meeting, maybe we do need to put some project emphasis on that.”
Fleury says he plans to attend more ward meetings even after he is sworn in during a change of command ceremony slated for Monday.
