Ontario Provincial Police in Fort Frances are issuing a warning to residents over the dangers of drugs following a pair of overdose deaths in the community under investigation.
Police believe neither of the deaths are connected, but the danger comes from the use of the drugs provided by unregulated sources, which often end in overdoses.
Members of the public are encouraged to call 9-1-1 if they or someone they are with experiences an overdose
As well there are some legal protections against simple drug possession charges for those who seek emergency help during an overdose.
If you come across something that appears to be illegal drugs contact police and do not touch it, as some substances can cause an overdose simply through skin contact.
The signs and symptoms of an overdose include:
· Difficulty walking, talking, and staying awake
· Blue lips or nails
· Very small pupils
· Cold and clammy skin
· Dizziness and confusion
· Extreme drowsiness
· Choking, gurgling, or snoring sounds
· Slow, weak, or no breathing
· Inability to wake up, even when shaken or shouted at
