There was no scoring but plenty of penalties in the first period with both teams making their presence known at the Spooner Civic Centre.
Moving into the second Jack Cook assisted by Noah Kramps opened up scoring in favour of the Walleye three minutes into the period, where both teams kept themselves at a stalemate, only picking up penalties until 16 minutes in Wisconsin’s Salvatore Poggialia finds the back of the net.
Moving into the third, three minutes in Kam River gets ahead after Ethan Lang, with an assist by Cook, sends it past Lumberjack goalie Kyler Lowden.
But a on a power play Dylan Jouppi, brings the score to two a piece.
The first overtime period saw the ferocity in at least two players on both teams as Walleye defenceman and Lumberjack forward Cooper McClure threw down each picking up penalties for unsportsmanlike conduct and fighting, which earned them both a game misconduct.
But despite all that, both netminders kept it tight, pushing the game into a second overtime.
Just under six minutes in Ryden McMillen was able to shutdown the Walleye.
Both teams will be back at Norwest Arena Saturday with one hoping to move on the other looking to survive.
Meanwhile that same night the Thunder Bay North Stars will be entertaining the Dryden Ice Dogs in Game 4 of that series, which sits at 2 games to 1, in favour of Dryden.
