The Kam River Fighting Walleye were not fish out of water Wednesday evening in Spooner, Wisconsin as they downed the Wisconsin Lumberjacks 10-2, in a repeat of game one of the series.
Only two words could be used to describe the first period “shooting gallery”, as the Walleye fired 14 shots on net, 4 of them finding the back of the net.
Noah Kramps opened up scoring just under 8 minutes into the first on a power play, his goal was followed up by a goal from Jack Cook 5 minutes later.
The intervals between goals became shorter after that, when Jeremy Dunmore flipped a shorthanded goal past Lumberjack goalie Kyler Lowden, at the 14 minute mark, and two minutes later Ethan Lang decided it was his turn to add to the fun.
4-0 Walleye at the end of the first.
Entering the second period things slowed down a bit but after a 13 minute stretch Riley Borody put another past the Lumberjack netminder.
1:27 seconds later Jack Cook picked up his second goal of the night.
It was at this point the Lumberjacks had enough, and Salvatore Poggiali handled the puck past Eric Vanska, picking up his 7th goal of the playoffs.
But with 11 seconds left the Walleye make it 7-1, on the power play with Max Leduc.
Top of the third, Lowden still in net for the Lumberjacks Noah Kramps again finds the back of the net.
Wisconsin fires back with an attempt at a comeback through Simon Davidson, but it just isn’t enough Walleye score two more including another from Jack Cook to give the 20 year old defenceman a hat trick.
Both teams will lace up Thursday night with the Walleye now in a position to sweep the series, sending them to the finals.
