The warm weather has been great, but not so good for the outdoor rinks across the city.
The City of Thunder Bay issued a notice that its outdoor rinks have significantly deteriorated, and all rinks (with the exception of the rink at Prince Arthur’s Landing) will be temporarily closed.
Lights will be turned off, change rooms will be closed and residents are asked to stay off the ice surfaces.
“The ice is extremely soft and in some areas completely melted,” said Cory Halvorsen, Manager, Parks & Open Spaces. “The current forecast shows temperatures dropping a bit after Thursday, if that holds true, we hope to have the rinks back open by the weekend.”
An update will be issued from the City when the rinks are reopened.
The refrigerated rink at Prince Arthur’s Landing is not impacted by this closure and is still open for skating Monday-Wednesday 12 pm-8 pm and Thursday-Sunday 12 pm-9 pm.
