The end of last night’s Committee of the Whole meeting also marked the end of City Treasurer Linda Evans’ career in the public service.
Her retirement was first announced in December but it was noted she would stay on until the 2023 city budget was passed.
In a final speech to her fellow front bench city staff members and to council, she thanked her colleagues for their dedication and accomplishments as a group, despite the challenges faced over the last few years.
“You are an inspiring, driven group, mostly A-Type personalities like me, that I know will keep bringing it and I’ll miss them all.”
Evans joined the city in 2016 and in addition to to her role as City Treasurer, she also served as the City’s General Manager for Corporate Services and Long-Term Care.
She also had some kind parting words for City Manager Norm Gale.
“Its been a challenging few years, and there’s gonna be more to come. I won’t miss the 2:30 a.m. meetings, but I’ll miss being part of your team. Thank you for your support and friendship over the years.”
According to Gale, Emma Westover will serve as Acting Treasurer, as the city searches for a permanent replacement for Evans.
