A 51-year-old city man has been hit with stunt driving charges and had his vehicle impounded after being clocked doing 93 km/hr in a 50 zone Monday morning.
A member of the Thunder Bay Police’s Traffic Unit happened to be in the area of Central and Balmoral conducting traffic enforcement, a result of recent public complaints about speeding in the area.
The officer observed the pickup truck and confirmed its speed with RADAR, conveniently the incident occurred within 200m of police headquarters.
The driver received a court summons’ for the offences of both speeding and stunt driving, which is determined by speeding by 40km/hr or more in a zone which is less than 80km/hr.
The vehicle has been impounded for 14 days, the driver’s licence has been suspended for 30 days, and he now must attend court.
Motorists are reminded that members of our Traffic Unit and Primary Response Branch conduct traffic and speed enforcement on an ongoing basis. Traffic enforcement may be part of regular patrols or could target areas of public concern.
