A new Labour Relations Committee has been formed by the Thunder Bay Police Services Board, which will assist the board in collective bargaining and other supports such as the health and well-being of members of the Thunder Bay Police Service.
Currently there are two positions open for members of the community to apply for, the board is hoping to attract those who have experience or knowledge in labour relations, disability management, return to work and workplace mental health and well-being expertise.
Selected applicants will then be joined by two members of the board and support staff.
The committee will have no direct impact on the budget for the Police Services Board, activities or programs recommended by the committee will, but are unknown at this point.
When asked if only two members would appropriately represent the demographics of the community, a spokesperson for the board says “community demographics are less of a concern here it is about adding subject matter experience.”
