Ontario’s police watchdog has opened up an investigation into the Thunder Bay Police following an incident from 2021.
The Special Investigations Unit was notified on January 5th by the Thunder Bay Police Service of the alleged custody injury, which stemmed from a complaint from the Office of the Independent Police Review Director.
A release from the S-I-U states the incident took place on December 19th of 2021 when officers were called to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre to apprehend a male patient who had fled.
The man refused to comply with officers and according to the S-I-U “there was an interaction between the officers and the man”.
After which the patient was returned to the hospital.
No details about the type of injuries the man received have been released.
Two investigators have been assigned to the case and the investigation remains in the preliminary stage.
