Ontario’s police watchdog has opened up an investigation into the Thunder Bay Police following an incident involving a vehicle injury.
Details obtained by Acadia News state the incident occurred in the Westfort area of the city on January 4th shortly before 4:30 p.m. when police attempted to pull a vehicle over for a Highway Traffic Act violation.
However the driver fled and minutes later was involved in a crash at Mary Street West and Brown Street.
Both occupants of the vehicle, a man and a woman, fled the scene on foot but were later arrested.
The man was taken to hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
As a result of the interaction the Special Investigations Unit invoked its mandate.
It is asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact investigators.
