With only a small downtown office space, and travelling much of Northern Ontario, Science North is finally getting a permanent facility.
It was announced that FedNor will be investing $1M into the project that will be shared with the Kenora location that is getting a sizable expansion.
Over the last few years Science North has been conducting consultations as to where the new building could be built, with their first choice being the Pool 6 location. That should wrap up by 2023, and hopefully have construction completed within the next five years.
The construction process will allow for many local trades jobs, as well as creating at least 12 permanent full-time and 12 part-time direct jobs between Kenora and Thunder Bay.
With a permanent location, Science North expects to have at least 80,000 people come through it’s eventual doors each year.
