The Doctor’s Cottage is now a designated municipal heritage property.
Council approved a recommendation from administration to add 281 Ray Court to the Heritage Register based on its value as defined by Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act
This move could lead to the property being declared as a Heritage Site.
The cottage was first erected in 1906 along McVicar Creek under the old address 286 River Street.
Cymanthe Ann Bready was the original owner until 1929, but Dr. Harold lived there from 1931 until 1959.
Following that, Dr. Powell owned it from 1959 until 2000.
Thunder Bay has 26 formally designated municipal heritage properties, 49 listed heritage properties (not formally designated) and one Heritage Conservation District.
