Batteries are being kept out of the trash thanks to city residents.
Thunder Bay’s residents have recycled more upwards of 11,301 kilos of batteries during 2021.
It’s best to recycle dead batteries instead of throwing them in the trash because of the potential for toxic metals in them and this lessens the risk of polluting the ground and water sources.
As well, old batteries can then be recycled instead of having to mine for new materials when making new batteries.
There are eight free drop-off points for single use batteries in the city;
• Household Hazardous Waste Depot, Solid Waste & Recycling Facility 5405 Mapleward Rd
• Victoriaville Civic Centre, 111 Syndicate Ave S (next to the Cashiers, during regular office hours)
• Brodie Resource Library, 216 Brodie St
• County Park Library, 1020 Dawson Rd, County Fair Plaza
• Mary J. L. Black Library, 901 Edward St S
• Waverley Resource Library, 285 Red River Rd
• EcoSuperior, 562 Red River Rd
• Thunder Bay 55 Plus Centre, 700 River St
