Another funding announcement from the province of Ontario.
The government is putting up a $25 million grant for specific program groups to apply to use in their communities to try and combat hate motivated crime.
The Ontario Grant to Support Anti-Hate Security Measures for Faith-Based and Cultural Organizations is only available for cultural and/or faith-based organizations.
It’s aimed at helping these organizations to cover employee and participant safety & security, and can also be used for training staff on responding and acting on hate motivated violence. The funds can also be used to remove hate speech graffiti and repair hate motivated vandalism.
Eligible organizations can receive up to $10,000 once based on their revenue.
In a written statement the Minister of Citizenship and Multiculturalism, Parm Gill, said,
In recent years we have seen a disturbing rise in community-reported hate related crimes, including increased acts of antisemitism, Islamophobia and anti-Asian racism, which has placed tremendous burden on faith based and cultural organizations.
These grants are also available on a first come, first serve basis.
