Thunder Bay has doubled it’s payments from the province for special projects.
City Manager Norm Gale, in an availability with the media Wednesday, said that the city will received $10 million/year over the next five years from the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund (OCIF) that was launched in 2014.
The fund is for small, rural and northern communities to build and repair critical infrastructure.
In recent years, the city was receiving just over $5 million/year.
There are 18 projects that are in the planning stages and three that are currently under construction.
The three that in progress are two rest stops outside of city limits, as well as the Broadband Infrastructure Development to bring high speed internet to remote Matawa-member First Nations communities.
Since 2014 Thunder Bay and District have completed 71 projects with a total budget of $295,437,797.
