With the temps feeling like -40 on most evenings and early mornings, the risk of frost bite continues to climb.
There’s also frost nip, this is frost bites less damaging cousin.
According to Health Canada, frostbite is
…blood vessels close to the skin constrict to protect the core body temperature. When your body is exposed to the cold for a long period of time, blood flow to your hands, feet, nose, and ears can be severely restricted.
And typically affects body parts furthest from the heart and outer extremities; hands, feet, nose & ears.
Frostnip is categorized as “mild frostbite”; because it will makes your skin look yellowish or white but it is still soft to the touch (the opposite of frostbite).
When warming back up, your skin might turn red, but it will go back to normal once the area is completely warmed up.
