It was a Festive Ride check gone wrong.
After observing many signs that the driver was likely impaired at the intersection of Sprague and Walsh Streets just after 9 p.m. on Dec. 30. at about 9:10 p.m.
Thunder Bay Police investigated further.
Police discovered that the driver was suspended and advised that the driver would be arrested. The suspect refused to get out of the car, and when an officer went to open the door the motorist fled.
The officer’s arm got stuck, and was dragged along side the car for a total of 250 metres by the time the vehicle came to a stop.
Calvin Lucas KANE, 22, of Thunder Bay, is charged with:
• Assaulting a Peace Officer with a Weapon
• Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
• Escape Lawful Custody
• Flight from Peace Officer
• Operation of a Motor Vehicle while Impaired
• Operation of a Motor Vehicle while Prohibited by Order
• Breach of Probation x 2
